The actual controls — high contrast, adjustable text size, reduced motion, a dyslexia-friendly font, and tap-to-hear — live in Settings → Accessibility.
If a setting you need is missing, email michael@trywhimsy.com — accessibility requests are prioritized.
Everyone deserves to read any story they can wish for. We are committed to making Whimsy Ink accessible to all users, including people with disabilities.
Accessibility is a core part of how we build. We are working toward conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA and continuously review and improve the Service as we progress.
Screen reader support — we are building the Service with semantic HTML and ARIA attributes to work with assistive technologies including VoiceOver (iOS and macOS), TalkBack (Android), NVDA, JAWS, and braille displays.
Keyboard navigation — we are building full keyboard access across core features including book cards, menus, modals, and audio playback controls, with a skip-to-content link for keyboard users.
Screen reader landmarks — we are implementing semantic landmark regions (navigation, main, banner, contentinfo) so screen reader users can navigate directly to any section.
Reader customization — we are building adjustable font sizes, a dyslexia-friendly font (OpenDyslexic), high contrast mode, and multiple color themes under Profile → Settings → Accessibility.
Folio player — we are building a dedicated audiobook player designed for accessibility, including high-contrast themes, large tap targets, plain-language controls, and full ARIA labeling.
Audiobooks — AI-generated audio versions of books provide an alternative to visual reading. Free audiobooks are available to all users with no subscription required.
Reduced motion — we are building support for the "prefers-reduced-motion" OS setting to disable animations and transitions app-wide.
Focus indicators — we are building clear focus rings on all interactive elements for keyboard users.
