1. Information We Collect

• Account Information: If you choose to log in via Google Authentication, we collect your email address and basic profile information to save your reading history across devices.
• Device, Cookie, and Tracking Data: We use cookies, local browser storage, pixel tags, and similar technologies to enable anonymous library saving, maintain your active session, and analyze platform usage metrics.
• Prompts & Generated Content: When you use the generation features of the Service, your prompts are processed by third-party AI providers to produce your book. See Section 4 for full details on how this data is handled.
• Advertising: Free-tier reading on Whimsy Ink is ad-supported. We may use third-party advertising partners who use cookies to serve and measure ads. You may opt out of personalized advertising through your browser or device settings.

2. How We Use and Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Ever.

We use your information strictly to provide, maintain, protect, and optimize the platform. To analyze usage trends, diagnose bugs, and improve overall performance, we use both proprietary internal tracking mechanisms and vetted third-party service providers, including cloud infrastructure and platform analytics utilities. Any data processed by external service providers is strictly handled under standard confidentiality terms.

Payment processing services are provided by Stripe. When you make a purchase, your payment information is processed and stored by Stripe in accordance with their Privacy Policy at stripe.com/privacy. Whimsy Ink does not store your credit card number, CVV, or full payment details on our servers.

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.

3. Data Retention & Deletion

• Google OAuth Data: When you log in using your Google Account, we securely store your email address and basic profile information solely to authenticate your identity and sync your saved library across your devices. We do not access, store, or share your Google contacts, private profile details, or any other data from your Google account.
• Your Rights & Data Deletion: You have complete control over your data. You may request to permanently delete your Whimsy Ink account and all associated personal data at any time by contacting privacy@trywhimsy.com. Upon verification, your personal data will be wiped from our active production databases within 60 days, or within the timeline required by applicable law.

4. AI Processing & Your Data

We do not train AI models on your content. Whimsy Ink does not use your prompts, novels, or personal data to train, fine-tune, or develop AI models.

When you create a novel, your prompt is processed by third-party AI service providers to generate the output you requested. Third-party providers are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, which may include data retention or training practices outside of Whimsy's control.

Whimsy Ink personnel may review user-submitted content — including prompts, generated books, and other inputs — for the purposes of content moderation, safety enforcement, and service quality. This does not constitute use of your data for AI model training.

5. Cookies

• Essential — required for the Service to function. Handles authentication, session management, and security. Cannot be disabled.
• Preferences — remember settings you have chosen, such as your visual theme and reading preferences.
• Analytics — help us understand how the Service is used so we can improve it. Can be disabled in account settings. Whimsy Ink uses Google Analytics 4 to collect information such as pages visited, time spent reading, and general device and location data (country/region level only; IP addresses are anonymized by default). This data is used solely to improve the platform. You can opt out at any time by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by disabling cookies in your browser settings.
• Advertising — free reading on Whimsy Ink is ad-supported. We may use third-party advertising partners who use cookies to serve and measure ads. You may opt out of personalized advertising through your browser or device settings.

6. Your Rights

All users:

• Access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting privacy@trywhimsy.com
• Opt out of promotional emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting privacy@trywhimsy.com. Transactional emails are not affected.

California residents (CCPA):

• Right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used
• Right to request deletion of personal information
• Right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
• Right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights

EU/EEA residents (GDPR):

• Right to data portability
• Right to restrict processing
• Right to object to processing
• Right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
• Legal basis for processing: contract performance, legitimate interest, and consent where applicable

7. Children's Privacy

The Service is limited to users aged 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@trywhimsy.com.

8. International Data Transfers

The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. Additionally, the third-party AI service providers we use to operate the platform may be located outside the United States. By using the Service, you consent to these transfers.

9. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure authentication, and access controls. No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law.
